THE UNIVERSITY OF CYPRUS ANNOUNCES THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CENTRE FOR MEDIEVAL ARTS & RITUALS (CeMAR) AT THE FACULTY OF LETTERS
 
CeMAR spurs and promotes ground-breaking interdisciplinary research in Medieval Studies. Its unique approach to the study of medieval arts and rituals addresses a long-standing gap in existing research that has not seen medieval arts and rituals as the interdependent and complementary practices that they truly are. CeMAR proceeds on the premise that medieval arts are imbricated with medieval rituals.

RESEARCH "ALLIANCE" BETWEEN NIREAS INTERNATIONAL WATER  RESEARCH CENTER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CYPRUS AND LARNAKA SEWERAGE AND DRAINAGE BOARD (SAL) TO CONTROL URBAN WASTEWATER FOR DETECTION OF GENETIC MATERIALS OF COVID
 
A new cooperation has been reached between the Larnaca Sewerage and Drainage Board (SAL) and the International Water Research Center "Nireas" of the University of Cyprus, in order to determine the presence of the genetic material of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19) in the wastewater that end up at the SAL Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant in Larnaca.

In 2021, EU Code Week brings six extraordinary hackathons to Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Romania and Slovenia. In these countries, Code Week invites upper secondary school students to form teams and use their coding skills to solve a local challenge.

EUROPEAN BATTERY ALLIANCE: MINISTERIAL MEETING ON PROGRESS AND FUTURE ACTIONS
 
On 12 March, the Commission held the 5th Ministerial Meeting under the European Battery Alliance. Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioners Thierry Breton, Nicolas Schmit and Elisa Ferreira, as well as the European Investment Bank Vice-Presidents Ambroise Fayolle and Thomas Östros attended the event alongside Ministers from 14 EU Member States with significant investments in the battery value chain.

COMMISSION WELCOMES AGREEMENT ON THE CONNECTING EUROPE FACILITY TO FUND GREENER, MORE SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT AND ENERGY NETWORKS, AND DIGITALISATION

INNOVATION FUND CALL FOR SMALL-SCALE PROJECTS RECEIVED 232 PROJECT PROPOSALS REQUESTING EUR 1 BILLION
 
INEA has received 232 project proposals by the deadline of 10 March 2021 for the first call for small-scale projects requesting a bit more than €1 billion from the Innovation Fund, 10 times more the available budget.

CORONAVIRUS: EU SUPPORT TO INNOVATORS YIELDS PROMISING RESULTS ONE YEAR ON

In the past year, the Commission has invested €226 million through the European Innovation Council pilot and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology to support innovative start-ups, small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and projects to develop solutions in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing crisis. Many of these companies and projects have already generated promising results.
